Specifically, the chapter mentions a variety of ways to use technology both inside and outside the classroom. As a biology teacher, I feel animations and videos can be extremely helpful in facilitating the learning of complex concepts, such as the transcription and translation of DNA. I may very well set up a blog such as this one just for my students so that they can browse helpful animations and videos. As the chapter discusses, students learn in different ways, and technology can appeal to a variety of learning styles. Additionally, with the widespread use of social media by many students, use of twitter to post assignments or discussions can be an exciting and different way for learning to occur.
From a practical standpoint, technology is a reality in our every day lives that cannot be avoided. Students need to, for their future careers, and for their future lives in general, learn how to use technology. As chapter 1 states, however, some students do not have as much access to technology as others. For this reason, it is important for teachers to help students during learn how to use technology during class time. This may seem like it will interfere with a lesson, however it is of vital importance, and combining technology with subject learning will maximize efficiency.
In conclusion, I feel that the use of technology as a learning tool is of paramount importance. I want to be an "early adopter" of technology so that I can present new concepts and techniques to my students when they are first available. I don't want them to lag behind in the world of technology, in other words. I hope to reach as many students as possible, no matter what their preferred learning modality, with exciting lessons that give them a sense of accomplishment. Technology is an excellent way to accomplish this goal.

I think students who come from low-income households have the opportunity to go to their local library and access the internet there. Any is eligible for a library card as long as they can prove they live in that town. also the students could stay longer at school and use the computer room, if there school has one.
ReplyDeleteprocrastination is the worst when it comes to teenagers doing there homework online. once the students travel home and get out of the teachers reach i think it is up to the students to make the right choice and to finish there homework first before they go on all of their social media websites. one thing as the teachers that we could do to help this situation as much as we could is to assign the students interesting assignments. assignments that the students would want to research and complete.
Honestly, I think it would be hard to help students stay on task when they're outside of the classroom using the internet.. because I know it's hard for me too. Yes, guilty of procrastinating and surfing the web when I should be working on my assignments.. If anything maybe have a deadline time for the assignments that helps because it rushes and keeps the student aware of the time so he/she does not waste time using the internet.
ReplyDelete1. I agree with lisa that students have the opportunity to go to their local library and use some of their amenities. But I also feel that schools should have after school programs or clubs that allow students to use, learn and play on computers, ipads and such. This way they have a way to practice their skills and have fun within their school yet in a more laid back environment.
ReplyDelete2. Yes! There are a vast amount of distractions that even adults can't help themselves from. I am extremely guilty of checking social media halfway through online homework assignments. This is a tough question but maybe if we give students a time limit on how long they are allowed for a online or technology used assignment then hopefully they will be more focused on getting it done on time then feeling as though they have time to dilly dally around.

ReplyDeleteWe know the about the fact well and have many solution about this problem. There are many public sites that student can use the computers. However, we need to know how fast the pace of technological change. The student from low-income households might be not adequately access latest technological devices. I think that the matter should have been settled in school at first. School need to be equipped with the brand new instructional technology tool.
